A proxy server works in Between a client and a host. The purpose is to secure and maintain connections regardless of the network access status of the client. The proxy server is installed within the wired network with high bandwidth access to the host. From there it can serve clients on WLAN, WAN as well as wired networks with wireless links on the way.Are WLANs stable today? Well, most WLANs are very stable as long as the client is not moving too fast. But when you introduce roaming clients, both within WLAN coverage area (moving between Access Points) and when moving in and out of coverage area (real roaming) you are almost guaranteed to have problems with unwanted disconnects. The cure for this is to add a proxy architecture.
