Given enough data, it allows you to see the trend that your net worth is taking, hopefully prompting you to take action to ensure that you meet your financial goals. A great feature of the financial calculators is that they allow you to perform sensitivity Analysis easily, so that you can quickly see the effects of any changes on each of the financial variables.
