Description - Make Township Program

The township fabric for western Canada was based on a Grid starting at the 49th parallel and at a MERIDIAN of longitude. There are several meridians starting with the first near Winnipeg (See Map). The corner of any township can be theoretically calculated by counting how many townships from the 49th parallel and how many ranges from the meridian. That is what this program does. The output from the program is a MapInfo mid/mif file. In addition to the graphic representation of the township grid, a database with the section, township, range, meridian, PPID and system of survey is produced. The PPID is the identification number assigned by SaskGeomatics, the Saskatchewan Provincial Government department responsible for Surveying and Mapping in Saskatchewan. The PPID number is only valid in Saskatchewan.
