Stefan Salvatore is a fictional character from L.J. Smith`s The Vampire Diaries (book series) and The Vampire Diaries (TV series). He is in all of The Vampire Diaries books: The Awakening, The Struggle, The Fury, Dark Reunion, The Vampire Diaries The Return: Nightfall, and The Vampire Diaries The Return: Shadow Souls. Stefan moves to Fell`s Church. Stefan LiVES at the old boarding house with old Mrs. Flowers. The catch is, Stefan is a vampire. He attends Robert E. Lee High School, he sees Elena, who looks exactly like his former love, Katherine, who had killed herself because he and his brother, Damon, were fighting over her, and she thought that killing herself would bring them closer together. Instead of becoming closer, they killed each other and became vampires. Stefan befriends Matt, a student there and Elena`s ex-boyfriend. Stefan saves Elena from Tyler Smallwood and they share their first kiss that night. Mr. Tanner, their teacher, was murdered. Stefan is suspected. Elena goes looking for him and finds him feeding on a dove. Stefan tells her the whole story. Elena tells Stefan that his brother, Damon, is in town. They think he did the attacks. Elena lets Stefan drink her blood and then she drinks his; exchanging blood. Damon and Stefan fight. Stefan goes missing, Elena suspects Damon. Elena, Matt, Bonnie, and Meredith find Stefan in a well. She lets Stefan drink her blood back at the boardinghouse. Stefan and Elena become engaged. He gives Elena Katherine`s ring that she left next to her ASHES. Caroline tries to humiliate Elena and get Stefan put away by reading from Elena`s diary, but is unsuccessful. Elena tells Aunt Judith and Damon in front of a bunch of people. She goes to the boardinghouse to wait for Stefan. A mysterious force puts Elena, who`s in Matt`s truck, drown on Wickery Bridge. Stefan finds Elena, because of a premonition Bonnie had, with Bonnie and Meredith. Elena is dead when they find her.
