Description - EzPinyin

Pinyin [Chin. pinyin zimu = Phonetic alphabet], system of romanization of Chinese written characters, approved in 1958 by the government of the People`s Republic of China and officially adopted by it in 1979. Designed in the People`s Republic of China during the mid-1950s, pinyin is a phonetic system of the Chinese language. It adopts the roman alphabet to represent phonetic sounds in Mandarin Chinese. There have been many different systems of transcription used for learning Chinese pronunciation. Whereas China`s capital was once called Peking in English, using pinyin it is now written Beijing. The reasons for adopting Pinyin included promoting a national language, establishing a means for writing non-Chinese (minority) languages in China, and encouraging foreigners to Learn Chinese. Pinyin is not used officially in Taiwan. Most of the syllables in Chinese are composed of an initial and a final. Final can forms a syllable by itself.
