Description - Exchange Stress and Performance Tool

ESP is a highly scalable stress and performance tool for Exchange. It simulates large numbers of client sessions by concurrently accessing one or more protocol servers. Scripts control the action each simulated client takes. These scripts are then executed by test modules (DLLs). These scripts contain the Logic for communicating with the server. Test modules Connect to a server through Internet protocols, or make calls to application programming Interfaces (APIs), or interfaces like OLE DB.

Modules can run concurrently on multiple hosts, thereby more realistically simulating physically separate clients. You can host ESP with any computer running Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0 or Microsoft Windows® 2000 on the network. Therefore, the load you can apply to a target server is limited only by the available hardware.

ESP is modular and extensible. Microsoft currently provides modules for most Internet protocols, including the following:

- Hypertext Transfer Protocol Distributed Authoring and Versioning (HTTP-DAV)
- Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP4)
- Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP)
- OLE DB
- Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP)
- POP3
- Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP)
